Joe "Metal Cowboy" Kurmaskie has been a journalist for 25 years and a performer since just after he came out of the womb. He's been a contributing writer to Bicycling Magazine, Details, Men's Journal and Prevention Magazine. He worked as an editor for an AP newspaper, before becoming and author and entertainer (mostly so he could sleep in late.) His bestselling books: Mud, Sweat and Gears, Metal Cowboy, Riding Outside The Lines, Momentum Is Your Friend and You Might Be A Cyclist If… have not been banned by the conservative right… yet. His work has appeared in Details, USA Today and The SF Chronicle. He reviews books for The Oregonian and is a educator for Literary Arts Inc and as a writer in residence at Portland State University. He lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife Beth and his four boys, Quinn and Lorenzo, Matteo and Sawyer. They attempt, without much success, to grow webbed feet during the "wet" season.

At Arkel we are all about adventures on wheels:

Adventures of self discovery, time rolling with family to form lifelong bonds, once in a lifetime trips with friends or the nobility of adventure for a charitable cause. Check out some of the Arkel sponsored friends who are taking bike adventures further afield this summer, you can see them, and our bags in action.

Tass Thacker and Bruce B. Junek
The husband and wife team of Tass Thacker and Bruce B. Junek have seven different slideshows that they take around to schools - 1.5 million students have seen them over the decades. I'm proud to call them my friends and quite bitter that they are roaming China without me and my family. But I know that their world class photography will capture the story of their adventure bicycling and exploring a spot on the map I've yet to roam. Check them out @ Images of the World

Doug Markgraf
Traumatic Brain Injury is a horrible way to lose your mind. 25-year-old Philadelphia school-teacher Doug Markgraf would know - on May 31, 2006, he was involved in a hit-and-run accident while riding his bicycle in a bike lane in West Philadelphia. In the collision, Doug shattered bones, helmet, bicycle - and suffered a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). He's getting in the saddle to raise awareness and funds for Raisin Hope Foundation. During the summer, he’ll update his blog, http://dougtrails.wordpress.com.

Bill Poindexter
A true success story on a bike. He went from obese to fit a few years back with the help of the bicycle. He's created http://www.carfreeamerican.com/ which profiles cyclists living a carfree lifestyle and he's getting ready to cover Seven hundred miles over 21 days — that’s how long it will take Bill to retrace a Revolutionary War route as he maps out a new trail from Rhode Island to Virginia.
